Description:

The coach suggests an exercise, training or competitive activity, focused on the players working on the different tactics or strategies of the game.

Goal of the activity

By hitting deeper and heavier shots, we want to keep the opponent back and away from the area of attack (inside the court); this way we are creating an opportunity to build the point and afterwards step inside the court to execute an Attack. We are within the Attacking area when (after a moving forward diagonally) our feet are on the baseline or inside the court.

Court positioning is key.

Planning of the session:

The planning of the session corresponds entirely to the coach. Players should propose game situations they want to enhance or improve.

Organization and development:

We can execute Attacking shots by hitting long or short, cross-court or down-the-line, and will predominantly hit the ball with a semi-top spin effect.

Practical examples

Down-the-line/cross attacks “Live Ball”:

“Cross-court Hitting drills with an option to hit a Winner “: Both payers are hitting deep and heavy cross-court shots – trying to push the opponent back; when a player steps inside the court (forward diagonal movement) he/she can hit a Winner shot down-the-line.

Variant: When a player steps inside the court (forward diagonal movement) he/she can hit a Winner Off-the-court, Cross-court, ‘Angle'(Wide), Down-the-line, or a Drop Shot.Variant: To hit off-the-court (towards Singles line) The players needs to choose between hitting down-the-line, crossed (opening towards the serve square or towards the singles line) or execute a drop shot.

“Positioning area for the Attacking game” The area marked with a green color.

Down-the-line/cross attacks “Live Ball”:

“Controls and hitting drills and backhand winners” : Same as above but hitting drills from backhand to cross backhand.

Down-the-line/cross attacks “Live Ball”:

“Hitting drills/Controls with an option to change directions Down-the-line”: Hitting deep and heavy backhand vs backhand cross-court; whenever one of the players moves forward diagonally to attack, he/she can hit Winner shots different ways:

Option A: Wrong Foot Winner Off-the-court (towards the singles line).

Option B: Changing directions Down-the-line (Winner shot).

Variants: Forehand Cross-court Hitting drill, Forehand Inside-Out Hitting drill, Mixed Slice vs Backhand Hitting drill, etc.

Cross attacks “Live Ball”:

“Hitting drills/Controls with an option to open cross court when recognizing the short ball.

Practical cases

The definition of Attacking shot: after building the point with several deep and heavy shots, we get a shorter ball and step inside the court to hit a Winner shot.

Hitting Directions: the idea is that we have to move the opponent by constantly changing directions and hitting short wide ‘angles’. In case of repeating (wrong foot) that can be done when the opponent’s ball comes slow or on the opponent weak side.

Variants can be carried out in all proposals

Variants: When working on the strategy, using live ball methods is the most effective, although you can also use the coach volley methods and throw baskets (racket or hand feeding).
