Description:

The coach organizes the space according to the activity he wants to do and the number and level of his players.

Goal of the activity

Through activities or exercises, recreate real game situations on 1/2 court, using live ball methods.

The objective of working on 1/2 parallel court is to create a very active session with little time wasted.

Planning of the session:

Defined by the coach

Organization and development:

It is about establishing rallies, points or tactical plays at the same time that the court is organized according to the number of players.

Changes in Positions: the distribution depends on the number of players, but an important factor to consider is the time a player has to wait in between points.

Coach’s task:

Control of all the Stations (whether on court drills and exercises or specific activities on the side of the court) and Control of the Duration between the stations, as well as general overseeing of the whole court area.

Coach’s Positioning: The coach has to take the position shown in the video, just behind the middle of the service line, behind the “T” (in between the service squares).

Player role:

The players take responsibility of performing at the highest possible intensity.

Practical examples

Hitting Drills and Games/Points

“Hitting Drills or Controls on 1/2 court” The coach establishes the hitting exercises or games/points (whether cross-court or down-the-line) and players train or compete. There are

4 players training/competing and 2 players waiting, with a ball in hand and ready to play whenever one player makes a mistake or loses the point.

Different Rotations of the players that Wait to play:

1- The players wait at the back fence (on both sides) and get in to play whenever one player (from the same side) makes a mistake or loses the point.

2. The players wait at the net post (on both net posts) and get in to play whenever one player (closest to their net post) makes a mistake or loses the point. This type of rotation works best for players 12 and younger.

3- Each 1/2 is a separate court. 1 player can compete against 2 players (rotating after every mistake or point lost) on one of the halves.

4- A Fitness station can be added, and all players (or groups of players) will do Fitness rotating every 10′.

Variants: the 1/2 court can include the doubles alley (or Not), Only Forehands, Only Backhand, Forehands against Backhands, Only Slice Backhands, etc.

cut strokes …..etc.

Points or games:

“Games and Points on an Enlarged 1/2 court” The court is divided in 2 halves, enlarging each half in a shape of a triangle (as shown in the video). The exercises using this set up will predominantly be Down-the-line Games and Points.

Points:

“Games and Points with 6 players on court” 4 players compete Full court: 2 consecutive points (win or lose) each player: 1 point Serving – 1 point Returning. Different variants can be added to the game: backhand can be slice only, if the ball bounces in the service box -the player has to approach and finish the point at the net, if the ball bounces in the service box it is considered Out, etc.

Points or games:

“Games and Points with 4+ players on court” In this case there is a coach (or player) feeding the ball. 2 players on each side (1 competing – 1 waiting), and 2 consecutive (win or lose) points for each player: 1 point approaching the net – 1 point trying to pass (hit a passing shot) the player that is approaching the net.

Practical cases

In the practical cases of the videos you can mainly work:

Recognition, transitions and footwork

Variants can be carried out in all proposals

Variants: the Fitness Station can be eliminated, in this case there will be 4 players in “Group C” Hitting Drills (2 players Hitting and 2 players waiting at the back fences on each side, ready with a ball in hand); and 2 players in “Group A” performing Coach Volley drills (1 player trains – 1 player waits).
