Descripción:

Working on real match tactical situations during a practice session. The coach establishes a specific Tactical situation; the exercise is started by the coach (or player) feeding the ball in a way that the tactical situation can be trained and both players play out the point (full court) until the end.

Objetivo:

Work on very specific tactical situations.

Practical Examples

“Approaching-the-Net exercise”:

The coach (or a player) feeds the ball in a way that the players can hit an Approach shot (trying to finish the point at the net with a volley) and play out the point (full court) until the end.

“Approaching-the-Net Hitting exercise”:

The player feeds the ball as if it was an Approach shot (trying to finish the point at the net with a volley) and play out the point (full court) until the end.

“Developing inside in and inside out forehand”:

One player feeds the ball to the backhand side the other player has to run around and the point starts. The player feeding will focuse on neutralizing the next shots, the other player will work on dominating the point with the forehand.

“Learn to finish points inside the court”

One player feeds the ball heavy trying to push the opponent to the side. The goal is go create an attacking situations so the player can work on finishing points inside the court. The other player is working on defending and trying to neutralize the point.

Practical cases

The practical cases that appear in these videos the teacher indicated to focuse mainly on the following aspects:

When the player enters the net, he must mainly cover the down the line passing shot.

When the opponent goes up to the net you have to put him to volley under the net and try to pass him/her with the second shot

When using running around the backhand, it’s better to start by opening the court with and inside out forehand and finish to the open space or wrong foot.

When defending, the player must generate power even in forced position and try to hit deep and crosscourt.

Variants

Variants: with this method you can create as many tactical situations as you want to work on. For example:

1 One player starts with a short angle with the forehand and the other player can go back with and angles or change down the line.

2 One feeds heavy to the backhand and the first shots has to be crosscourt.
