Objetive:

The same way as with the method of “Isolation of lower body action” this Method mainly helps to work on helping the player eliminate bad habits in the technique or poor stroke execution motions. The interesting part of working on the forehands and backhands by hitting against the wall is that the player is forced to hit at maximum intensity without much time between strokes. By hitting at the highest intensity, and with not much time to prepare the next stroke, the technique is automatically being cleaned up and corrected, because the player is forced to use the most fluid, ergonomic stoke motion and does not have time to add any other unnecessary (orthopedic) motion.

Session plan:

The Planning of the sessions is made entirely by the Coach (proactive decision making) to help players get the best results. The coach establishes the different sequences, sets of strokes, and their timing. The coach selects the most important aspects of the strokes to be worked on (preparation, contact point, termination of the stroke) and the players only focus on the aspects established.

Session development:

The coach gives the players some autonomy and reduces the involvement to just giving some pieces of advice on technique, and gives feedback on the performance. The players take responsibility of performing at a high intensity, evaluating their progress and giving feedback to the coach.

Practical examples

“Forehand”:

In a matter of split second, the player has to go from the Termination of the last stroke to the Preparation of the next one; this way the player has no time in performing extra, unnecessary motions and the stroke is being corrected and the technique cleaned up by itself.

Backhand volley:

The player only has time to execute a short Preparation and a short Termination of the stroke.
