Objetive:

The main objective when having the initiative of the point is to take tie away from the opponent, stepping inside the ball then dominting the point will be key.

Key Aspects:

After hitting a deep and heavy ball and recognizing that the opponent is off balanace and the ball is coming slow and will probably be short – the player has to increase the rhythm of the feet, take a few steps inside the court and hit the ball on the rise (between hip and shoulder) with the main intention of taking time away from the opponent with the following attacking shots.

There is the possibility that after the attack, the opponent, even in a defensive positions, makes a good defense and forces the attacking player to back off again. In this case the player must absorb the good defense of the opponent and begin to prepare the point again. Patience and good decicions making is key for this process.

Practical examples

Positioning from 3/4 of the court  “Live ball drill”:

Increasing the rhythm of the feet” When the opponent’s ball is coming slow the player increases the rhythm of the feet and executes a winner shot.

Variants: Coach feeding the ball/Basket Drills/Coach-Volley method, etc.
