Description:
The coach proposes a tactical situation and the players play out the point (or game). When the point is over, the coach gives feedback to the players, discussing whether the point was played out correctly from the tactical standpoint.
Objetive:
Working on real match tactical situations during a practice session. The size of the court is usually reduced to increase accuracy; the players are given certain tactical objectives, and after these objectives have been accomplished the players can finish playing-out the point using the full court.
Session development:
There are many rules that the coach can put to create tactical situations to work hitting free, here are some ideas:
- Points where the ball can not bounce on the service box to learn how to play deep and to develope patience and consistency.
- Points with the following rule; if the player misses in the net standing behind the line loses and extra point, and if the player hits a winner inside the court wins 2 extra points. Great way to get tactically order.
- Points where one player is not allowed to play down the line, great way to practice defensive skills and fighting spirit.
Practical examples
“Hitting exercises that integrate Patience and playing in Forced Positions”:
Free hitting with an objective of being patient but at the same time being able to generate power when hitting in Forced Positions.
“Hitting exercises that help Develop the Backhand as a Weapon”:
Hitting exercises or Points, where one player has only one half of the court (backhand side half) and only hits backhands; but if that player approaches the net – the opponent can hit anywhere (full court) and both play out the point until the end.
“Hitting exercises that help Develop the Forehand as a Weapon”:
Hitting exercises or Points, where one player has only one half of the court (forehand side half) and only hits forehands; but if that player approaches the net – the opponent can hit anywhere (full court) and both play out the point until the end.
